Jess was born in a small town in western Maryland. Her parents knew that music would be a big part of her life when at the age of two, she picked up a toy xylophone and began playing along with music and tv. At age five, she began piano lessons, and her teacher discovered that she had perfect pitch. However, she didn’t really have the discipline to practice up to several hours a day. Jess loved music and sports, as well as other social activities. At the age of fifteen, she took a break from Classical piano, and went back to it with a new fervor and interest a year later. Jess entered college on music scholarships, under a Piano Performance Major. It was while in music school at University of Miami, that she discovered dance music.
Having studied Classical music, Jess found dance music to be very similar in structure and harmony. She would often sneak into clubs at age 19 just to dance all night. Jess left UM for personal reasons, and finished her degree in Music Business at University of Maryland. After graduation, she moved to Orlando, and picked up her first turntables. She DJ’ed for several years, then sort of put it aside as records became less accessible and more expensive. Jess enrolled at Full Sail and got her degree in Audio Production. After graduating, she was hired to teach music theory. She ended up teaching five classes for a little over three years. About a year ago, someone introduced her to CDJ’s and the accessibility of music on the Internet.
Jess now DJ’s regularly in Orlando. You can find her the first Saturday of every month at Sky 60 for the now-legendary GO parties. She is one part of Native Frequency with better half Nat Eichler. Look for their production this spring on 1 Shot Recordings.
